Director of Athletics
Southern Vermont College seeks candidates for the position of Director of Athletics. The Athletic Director (AD), a full-time, twelve-month position, provides overall leadership for the athletics program at Southern Vermont College, a NCAA Division III college. Southern Vermont College is a charter member of the New England Collegiate Conference, and sponsors 10 NCAA sports. A large percentage of the SVC student population participates in athletics.
The AD responsibilities include maintaining the quality and integrity of athletic programs; ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference and campus policies; supervising coaching and athletic support staff; managing fiscal resources of the department; and promoting the growth and development of the athletic department.
The Athletic Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the department and is expected to maintain a constant commitment to athletic and academic excellence. Reporting to the College president, the AD must be a team player who works cooperatively with the Senior Leadership Team and other on- and off-campus constituencies.
The Athletic Director is expected to:
Possess strong knowledge of coaching, recruiting, fund raising, personnel management and fiscal facilities management;
Maintain a commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship and competitive achievement;
Play an instrumental role in attracting and retaining students;
Plan and direct all department activities as well as oversee personnel administration and professional development of staff;
Plan, monitor and maintain departmental budgets;
Develop and implement strategies to increase financial support
for the athletics program through marketing and promotion of the
athletic department;
Serve on various departmental and College committees.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s preferred. The successful candidate will have experience in sports administration or a relevant field with at least 5 years progressively responsible experience in higher education; knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and hands-on experience with NCAA Division III compliance. We seek someone with proven ability in strategic planning, public relations skills and leadership.

Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach
Southern Vermont College seeks a head coach to oversee all aspects of the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs, including coaching, student recruitment and development, contest scheduling, budget management, compliance with NCAA, conference, and College rules and regulations, student-athlete academic achievement, and other duties assigned by the Athletic Director. Additionally, the incumbent must be able to organize and run a cross country invitational. Also important are to maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors and other individuals interested in the Cross Country program. This is a full-time, 10-month position to begin August 1st.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
* Previous, successful cross country coaching experience at the
high school or college level; college level preferred.
* Experience organizing and running a cross country meet.
* NCAA compliance oversight desired.
* Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively
communicate with a diverse community of students, faculty, coaches,
administrators and staff.
* Ability to represent the Department and the College to off-campus
constituencies, including alumni, friends, corporate partners and
donors.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
* Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple,
competing tasks and priorities.
* Team-oriented individual with ability to take initiative.
* Proficiency with word-processing software and database
management.
* Valid CPR / AED and first aid certifications and valid driver's
license are also required
