Mountaineers Fight Off Gators

ALBANY, N.Y. - Lance Spratling and Joe Karnik led the Southern Vermont College men's basketball team to victory against the Sage College Gators on Tuesday night in the Kahl Campus Center 73-63. A late-game run by Sage found the Mountaineers squad of seven working extra hard to pull off the "w". Spratling had 30 points while Karnik posted 19 points.

Southern Vermont College improves to 2-0 with the win, while Sage drops 0-2 overall.

SVC would take a 40-26 halftime lead as junior guard Lance Spratling led the half with 19 points and 11 rebounds. By game's end, he recorded his second straight double-double as he poured in 30 points and 16 rebounds. Karnik added 24 rebounds on top of his 19 points as the Mountaineers out-rebounded the Gators 57-50.

Sage would pull within four points down the stretch as they got as close as 65-61 with 2:40 left to play, but were not able to got the gap and fell in the final moments of play.

Sage would get a double-double from freshman forward Matt Farbotko as he connected for 16 points and 10 rebounds with a block.

Southern Vermont College travels to Williams College for their tip-off tournament on November 20th and 21st. The Mountaineers will face the host Ephs on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
