BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont men's soccer team had its first conference game of the season and could not generate any offensive game against Daniel Webster College on Saturday.
Despite the lack of offense the Mountaineers held it together to only allow 16 shots by the visiting Eagles, the lowest of the season for SVC.
Eagle Chris Leyland scored twice for Daniel Webster; his first coming in just the 5th minute of play squeezing it past the diving SVC goalkeeper Aaron Eschler (Gloversville N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth HS) in the upper right hand corner of the frame to make it 1-0. Leyland would not strike again until the 51st minute of play when he once again got it past Eschler, who had 5 saves on the day.
With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 2-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Eagles did pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-3.
The Mountaineers take on Bard College at home Tuesday, September 23, on Everett Field. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
