Men?s Soccer Drops Non-league Night Matchup at Anna Maria, 3-1

PAXTON, Mass. – Southern Vermont College fell 3-1 Wednesday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Anna Maria College's AMCATS Field.

After the hosts got on the scoreboard first, SVC tied it at 1-1 in the 18th minute. AMC took the edge with just over six minutes to go before halftime, and the AMCATS then notched a piece of insurance in the second period while preventing the Mountaineers from getting into the back of the net the rest of the way.

Southern Vermont (0-3) is back in action this weekend when the College hosts the LINAO Mountaineer Invitational; SVC will take on SUNY Canton at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the opening game of the bracket-style event.

Freshman Jared Lacoste (Arlington, Vt.) notched his first collegiate goal for SVC in Wednesday's effort. Classmate Dylan Berg (Tampa, Fla.) made six saves in goal during the loss (0-3).

Shots were fairly even throughout the evening as Anna Maria took an 18-15 upper hand while both teams landed 10 takes on frame. SVC hit five corner kicks to the AMCATS' two during the match.

AMC scored in the 10th minute of the game to take the early lead, but Lacoste would answer about seven minutes later to tie it at one apiece. The 1-1 tally stood until there was 6:22 left in the first as Anna Maria connected for its second goal, and the AMCATS added an insurance score in the 57th minute while its defense and goalkeeping kept the Mountaineers at bay for the win.
