Mountaineer Volleyball Falls Short Against Top Ranked MIT

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team came up short against the top ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers losing 3-0  (30-14, 30-10, 30-19) Friday night in the Field House. Sophomore outside hitter David Thomas led the Engineers with 12 kills, while setter Caine Jette had career night with 40 assists for MIT. Sophomore Sean Moore led SVC with five kills.

The loss drops the Mountaineers to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA). The win gives MIT a 6-1 record and a perfect 2-0 in the NECVA. Despite the loss, Southern Vermont tallied the most points against the Engineers that it ever has.

MIT had a killer night from the service line with 22 aces, while SVC only had five. The Mountaineers had several monster blocks tallying five total on the night. Neel Patel led Southern Vermont with seven assists and Amaral led the team with seven digs.

Southern Vermont is back in action Saturday, January 30th, when it hosts NECVA New England division foe Lesley University at 7:00 p.m. in the Field House. MIT is back in action February 2nd when it travels to Newbury College for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Nighthawks.
