MARCY, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team embarked on its 2018 campaign Tuesday night—falling 3-0 to SUNY Polytechnic Institute at Wildcat Field House.

The hosts took the sweep with set scores of 25-7, 25-9, and 25-8.

The Mountaineers (0-1) now turn their attention to a busy, three-match weekend which starts on Friday with a 6 p.m. first serve at Mount Ida College.

SVC sophomore Te Hayward (Baltimore, Md.) notched team-highs of three kills and three digs while senior El Olivares (Miami, Fla.) had another three kills for the visitors. Freshman Zach Rogers (North Bennington, Vt.) tallied five assists in the effort.

The Wildcats never trailed throughout the night as they scored at least the first four points of each set. SVC was hard-pressed for an answer against a SUNY Poly offense that tallied a .600 hitting percentage in the match.
