MEDFORD, Mass. — Southern Vermont College kicked off its 2015 outdoor track & field season Saturday, competing at the Tufts University Snowflake Invitational.
The meet's name proved true as the Mountaineers ran through the falling snow on a cold, Boston-area campus in SVC's first appearance as a varsity program. Many of the Southern Vermont entries were first-time events for the runners, establishing personal records in NCAA competition.
SVC sophomore Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, N.Y.) finished the men's 800 meter run in a time of 2:07.28, placing 14th in a field of 70 participants. Classmate Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vt.) was 16th in a field of 51 runners who partook in the women's 800 meter run, crossing the line with a mark of 2:41.21.
The Mountaineers are set to next visit Springfield, Mass. for the American International College Invitational Saturday, April 4.
