BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field coaching staff has named sophomore Morgan Arleth (Berlin, Vt.) as the team's Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 16, 2017.
Arleth competed in the women's 1500 meter run in the tough field at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Upstate Classic—coming through with a time of 5:55.70. That was over 18 seconds faster than she posted for the distance at last week's Pioneer Invitational hosted by Smith College.
The Mountaineer sophomore then doubled up and ran in the women's 800 meter race—knocking almost half a second off her mark from last week with a 2:59.39.
"Morgan has been working extremely hard this season," commented SVC head coach Kathleen Newton '04. "Her speed has improved, along with her ability to race tough against highly-competitive athletes. This was a big confidence boost for her, and we are looking forward to the next competition."
Arleth and the Mountaineers are back in action this upcoming Saturday when they head to the University at Albany for the Spring Classic.
