Bevis Goal Not Enough Against Wildcats

BENNINGTON, Vt.- Mountaineer junior Kimberly Bevis' (Valley Falls, N.Y./Hudson Valley CC) goal in the 47th minute of play was not enough to lift the Southern Vermont women's soccer team over New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rival Bay Path College as they succumbed to a 6-1 loss Saturday at Everett Field.
Bay Path sophomore forward Jacqui Siddle and junior midfielder Jessica Hunt led their team with two goals apiece. Siddle struck first finding the back of the net just through the hands of Mountaineer freshman goalkeeper Jillian Neudecker (Johnsonville, N.Y./Tamarac HS) after a corner kick in the 4th minute of play. Senior captain defender Michelle Deyorio launched the eventual game-winner in the 10th minute of play.
Fellow senior captain midfielder Victoria Malanowski made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute of play placing it in the left corner of the frame past the reaching arms of Neudecker. Siddle connected again for her second goal of the game in the 42nd minute to give Bay Path a 4-0 lead at the half.
Bevis broke up Bay Path's shut-out in the 47th minute with strike right past the gloves of Wildcat sophomore goalkeeper Kate Lowy in what would prove to be Southern Vermont's lone goal of the game. This was Bevis' first goal of the season.
Bay Path made it 6-1 with two quick goals from Hunt in the 50th minute and once again in the 75th minute to finish off the Wildcats scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Neudecker picked up the loss giving up 6 goals while facing 26 shots. She had nine saves in her 90 minutes of play.
Bay Path is now 1-8-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in the NECC, while Southern Vermont is 0-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The win gives the Wildcats its first win of the season and first win in Conference play.
The Mountaineers host Fisher College in non-conference play Wednesday, October 15, on Everett Field. Kickoff is at 4:00p.m.
