LEICESTER, Mass. - New England Collegiate Conference saves leader Jillian Neudecker (Johnsonville, N.Y./Tamarac HS) had 16 saves for the Southern Vermont women's soccer team on Tuesday, but it was not enough to get past NECC foe Becker as the Mountaineers fell by a score of 8-0.
Mountaineer freshman Daryl Aubin (Forestdale, RI/North Smithfield HS) had several scoring opportunities throughout the game. In the first period she had an amazing breakaway from the Becker defenders, putting up a strike that was snagged by the Hawks goalkeeper for a save. In the second period, Aubin got two more shots off - one on another breakaway that went just wide of the frame and another that was tipped away for a save.
The loss comes in a rebuilding year for the Mountaineer women's soccer program, (0-8 overall, 0-3 NECC), which is looking forward to finishing the season strong with six games to go.
"Every game at this point is a learning experience," said first season SVC Head Coach Shawn Holcombe. "We still have a mathematical chance of making the Conference playoffs, and that's what is driving us now."
This was the first NECC win for Becker, who improved to 2-7 overall (1-2 NECC). Alexandra Fernandes and Catherine Millette combined for six goals and two hat tricks for the Hawks.
The Mountaineers hit the road again as they play a Conference game against Lesley on Saturday, October 4. Kickoff is at 10:30 a.m.
