Mountaineers Fall In NECC Showdown

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Southern Vermont women's soccer team allowed five goals in the first half and could not generate an offensive attack as they lost to conference foe Elms College 7-0 Wednesday.
Elms College won its third straight to improve to 5-6 overall, 5-0 NECC. With the loss Southern Vermont fell to 0-10 overall, 0-5 NECC.
Blazers Kelsey Battige and Serina Percoski came out with two quick goals to give Elms a 2-0 cushion early on. Shannon Schickler followed with her first goal of the year in the 12th minute, Krystyna Gagne added her team-leading 11th goal of the year in the 14th minute and Vanessa Pare tallied her second of the season in the 31st minute to help the Blazers to a 5-0 lead at intermission. A score from Amanda Alvarado and another from Percoski rounded out the scoring for Elms.
Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Neudecker (Johnsonville, N.Y./Tamarac HS) finished with 15 saves for the Mountaineers in the loss.
Southern Vermont hosts NECC conference foe Bay Path 0-7-2 overall, 0-2-1 NECC. Kickoff is at 1:00p.m.
