SVC Can’t Tame the Tigers

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont women's soccer team has not been dealt the best hand this season. With a lack of depth and some minor injuries, the Mountaineers have not been able to find their first win.

The Mountaineers (0-5) could not recover after SUNY-Cobleskill's (3-0) four first half goals on 29 shots and lost their fifth game of the season by a score of 7-0.

Leah Hyde scored the game's first goal in the seventh minute with an assist from Anilu Zaragoza. Kristen Raina scored three goals on 12 shots to lead the Fighting Tigers to victory.

Southern Vermont goalkeeper Jillian Neudecker (Johnsonville, N.Y./Tamarac HS) could not save the game for the Mountaineers despite having 25 saves on the night.

Offensively, Southern Vermont failed to move the ball downfield on a regular basis and was outshot by the Fighting Tigers, 58-4. Senior Leslie Surdam (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls HS) and freshman Daryl Aubin (Forestdale, R.I.) both had prime opportunities to score but could not get it past the hands of the Fighting Tigers goalkeeper Lisa Every.

The Mountaineers take on New England Collegiate Conference foe Daniel Webster on the road Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
