BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College women's soccer moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-0 win Sunday afternoon over visiting Pine Manor College.
The Mountaineers got the scoring early with a goal by freshman Bridget Kelly (Lebanon, Conn.) in the 3rd minute. Continuing to apply pressure, SVC stood atop with a 5-0 lead at halftime with the hat trick of junior transfer Jocelyn Ortega (Chula Vista, Calif.). Junior rookie Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, Vt.) added another in the second half for her fourth of the week.
The Gators, only able to use 10 players, never gave up and showed tremendous heart throughout the 90 minutes, playing hard until the final horn. Goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, Ill.) had six saves in the match.
SVC coach Michael Zauzig said after the game, "It's a fantastic way to start the season, and it's great for our confidence and momentum, but we need to realize we're only two days into the season and we still have to continue to work hard in order to improve." The Mountaineers move on to play at Green Mountain College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., while the Gators' next match comes Wednesday when they host Daniel Webster College at 4:00.
