Women’s Cross Country Tallies Three Personal Bests at Williams’ Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College women's cross country team continued to get ready for the New England Collegiate Conference Championship (NECC) on Saturday with the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School.

Threee Mountaineers registered personal bests on the 5,000 meter course. The co-ed 5K did not have team scores registered.

SVC continues the season next Saturday, September 30 at the Keene State College Invitational; that race is slated to start at 11 a.m. in New Hampshire.

Southern Vermont was led by Bennington College senior Isabella Poulos (Milwaukee, Wis.) who had her best race of the season with a 22:06.

Poulos was followed by SVC freshman Emily Ikonen (Hubbardston, Mass.) who knocked 1:16 off of her old PR to come in at 25:06. Senior rookie Lexia Gillette (Pittsfield, Mass.) was next across the line for the Mountaineers—setting a new personal best of her own by 15 seconds with a 25:48.

Junior Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) finished with a time of 27:51 to be just four seconds off of her PR, and classmate Stephany Ferreira (Shelton, Conn.) took 1:19 off her previous personal best to follow at 28:33. Freshman Faith Sullivan (Bennington, Vt.) rounded out the team with a 36:36 showing as she shaved seven seconds off her time from a week ago.
