BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College fell 6-0 to Newbury College Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action at Everett Field.

The visiting Nighthawks scored three times in each half to walk out with the comfortable victory.

SVC (1-8, 0-2 NECC) is off until next Saturday, September 29 when the Mountaineers head to Lesley University for a 1 p.m. league tilt. The Nighthawks (5-2-1, 2-0 NECC) now turn to a Wednesday non-conference match as NC hosts Fitchburg State University for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

It didn't take long for Newbury to get on the scoreboard with the Nighthawks finishing on a well-constructed play in the third minute. Freshman Warren Exceus (Boston, Mass.) took a pass from junior Julius Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) near the top-left edge of the box and flicked it behind his leg into the penalty area; Davis got on the other end of the give-and-go, took one touch towards goal, and sent his second score of the year into the right side netting.

NC freshman Kobe Barnes (Hartford, Conn.) tallied his first collegiate goal about 12 minutes later after carrying the ball down the right side of the pitch and burying it in the left side of the cage. He would add another with 2:29 left to go in the first half when he got on the end of a nice through ball by junior Alex Strafer (Auburn, Mass.) near the midfield circle.

Barnes chalked up an assist early in the second period when he set up Exceus near the top of the box, and SVC would be held to just one shot through the final 45 minutes as Newbury closed it out with two more strikes.

NC junior keeper Chris Tran (Nantucket, Mass.) made a pair of saves through the first 74:24 of the win (2-2) while SVC freshman counterpart Diego Uquillas (Erie, Pa.) totaled three stops in the same amount of time during the loss (1-6).
