CHICOPEE, Mass. – Southern Vermont College fell 3-0 to Elms College Tuesday night in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball action at Picknelly Arena.
The Blazers won the night with game scores of 25-5, 25-12, and 25-10.
SVC (0-18, 0-10 NECC) concludes the season on Saturday with a league doubleheader at home against Lesley University. That will be the Mountaineers' Senior Day with their recognition ceremony taking place prior to the 4 p.m. start.
Southern Vermont sophomore Te Hayward (Baltimore, Md.) tallied a team-leading four kills while adding four digs, and junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) tied the team-high of five digs in addition to popping up five assists. Senior captain El Olivares (Miami, Fla.) also had five digs in the effort.
Elms ran off 12 straight early in the first to stake a comfortable advantage, and the hosts never looked back while taking the opening set.
A 9-1 run in the second was followed by the Blazers rallying for nine unanswered points to open it up and take the 2-0 upper hand in the match.
EC went on multiple spurts in the front-end of the third to chalk up a 12-3 lead, and the hosts remained in control the rest of the way for the season sweep.
