CANTON, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College's outdoor track & field team ventured north Saturday for St. Lawrence University's Saints Ice Breaker Open and the Mountaineers' first outdoor event of the year.
Included in SVC's results were a pair of school records and another nine personal bests.
Southern Vermont is next in action on Saturday, April 7th with the Smith College Invitational.
In her first time running the event collegiately, Mountaineer freshman Emily Ikonen (Hubbardston, Mass.) broke the team's 200 meter dash record as she placed fifth on Saturday with a mark of 30.8 seconds; that topped the previous record by 2.45 seconds.
Fellow freshman Faith Sullivan (Bennington, Vt.) became SVC's first woman to participate in the discus toss—setting the school record at 22.22 meters.
Among the personal records was sophomore Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) who topped his previous best in the 800 meter dash by 1.01 seconds—moving him into third on the team's all-time list with a 2:09.14. Freshman Dylan Knight (Sweeney, Texas) crossed the line in the 100 meter dash .4 seconds faster than he did a week earlier to chalk up a 12.13 and jump up to fourth on Southern Vermont's record list.
