BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Southern Vermont College women's lacrosse team fell 19-2 in its 2018 season opener Tuesday afternoon—being topped by Moravian College at John Makuvek Field.

The hosting Greyhounds scored the first eight goals of the day to bring a 15-1 upper hand into the break. The second half didn't include a lot of offense with MC notching four goals to the Mountaineers' one in securing the win.

SVC (0-1) plays the second of its two Spring Break games on Wednesday in Baltimore—that being an 11 a.m. neutral-site match against Utica College.

Mountaineer freshman Mia Prouty (Bennington, Vt.) and senior Kristiana Goldup (Schuylerville, N.Y.) each had a goal in the effort while freshman Alex Safford (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) notched an assist. Junior Madi Carr (Petersham, Mass.) tied the game-high of five ground balls, and she also had a pair of caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Goldup played the first half in net—making six saves in the loss (0-1).

After the Greyhounds went up 8-0 at the 22:46 mark of the opening period, Prouty converted on a free position opportunity for her first collegiate goal. Moravian then went on a 10-0 run into the second stanza—using seven of those to close out the first. Late in the game, Safford found Goldup who then deposited a shot into the back of the cage for her third career score.
