PURCHASE, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College was downed 19-4 Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Purchase College.

The Panthers ran out to a 6-0 lead before the Mountaineers got on the board midway through the first. Purchase would go into the break on top 11-1 and sustained the upper hand through the final 30 minutes.

SVC (0-3) has one more non-league match before starting the New England Collegiate Conference schedule—that being a 6 p.m. start at Smith College on Wednesday.

Mountaineer freshman Alex Safford (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) used her first collegiate goals to notch a hat trick, and she also had two ground balls in the effort. Junior Aubrey Vierstra (Saugerties, N.Y.) tallied a goal for SVC while adding three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Freshman Mia Prouty (Bennington, Vt.) registered an assist, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a team-leading six ground balls for the visitors.

After Purchase went on top 6-0, Prouty fed Safford for SVC's first tally. The Panthers would keep Southern Vermont scoreless the rest of the half, but Vierstra posted a man-up goal to get the difference back to single digits with the first score of the second stanza. After Safford completed the hat trick, however, the hosts finished the game on a 5-0 run for the comfortable victory.
