CANTON, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College fell 3-1 to SUNY Canton Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action.

The hosting Roos had a 2-0 advantage by the end of the 12th minute and led 3-0 going into the 58th. SVC was able to get on the board with just over 30 minutes to go but could not get any closer as the visitors took their first loss of the season.

Southern Vermont (0-1-1) now sets its sights on a Tuesday trip to Clark University which sees the Mountaineers take to the pitch for a 7 p.m. match against the Cougars.

Canton put one home 9:13 into the game before padding its lead about two minutes later. The Roos struck once again in the 23rd minute and carried that 3-0 upper hand into the halftime break.

13 minutes after play resumed, SVC freshman Kaidin Gauthier (Bennington, Vt.) capitalized on a mishandling of the ball by the Canton keeper and punched it home on the open net for her first collegiate goal.

The Roos kept Southern Vermont from registering a shot on frame through the rest of the match, however, as they closed out their first win of the year.

Mountaineer senior keeper Carissa Bottisti (Amsterdam, N.Y.) took the loss (0-1-1) after playing the first 82 minutes between the pipes.
