MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team fell 3-0 at Morrisville State College Thursday night, losing in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Mustangs bounced back to win the first set 25-19 and went on to take the second by a 25-10 margin. Morrisville then held off the Mountaineers with a 25-22 third-set victory to take the non-conference matchup.
SVC senior captain Sheilani Kaleopa (Riverside, Calif.) notched 14 assists, two kills, and four digs; she also tied her career-high of six service aces which she had previously registered another three times, four of those points from behind the line came on consecutive serves in the opening set. Mountaineer freshman Alycia Stevens (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) led all players with eight kills, chipping in with seven digs and a pair of assists in the effort.
Classmate Lizzy Bench (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) tallied a team-best nine digs to go along with her three kills, and senior captain Brin Goldman (Christiansted, Virgin Islands) had five kills, eight digs, and three service aces on the night.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a Saturday tri-match at Daniel Webster College at which they will play the hosting Eagles in an 11 a.m. non-conference contest before taking on Mount Ida College at 1 p.m.
