Women’s Cross Country Chalks up Four Personal Records at Keene State Invitational

KEENE, N.H. – Four of the five Southern Vermont College women's cross country runners who participated in Saturday's Keene State College Invitational registered new personal bests as the Mountaineers continued to get ready for their league championship in late October.

SVC placed sixth in the seven-team field.

Southern Vermont takes next weekend off and sets its sights on Western New England University's Golden Bear Invitational; that 5k is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 13.

Mountaineer senior Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) took 23 seconds off her previous best to cross first for SVC with a time of 24:10. Freshman Ahmyria Simmons (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Aliesha Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished neck-and-neck at 26:42 with Simmons taking claim to Southern Vermont's second placement; Simmons beat her PR by 32 seconds while Thomas knocked off a whole 2:13 from her old 5k record. Freshman Brittany Fulton (Bridgeport, Conn.) rounded out the Mountaineers' scoring placements as she came through at 43:24 in her first collegiate cross country race.
